ACHIEVEMENT TESTING THIS WEEK!

Dear Families, Your child will be participating in the Standard Achievement Test (SAT 10) beginning on TUESDAY, APRIL 28TH AND ENDING ON FRIDAY, MAY 1ST. The multiage students will complete criterion referenced tests including Reading and Mathematics. The test are administered to help our school district evaluate curriculum needs as well as to measure the progress of individual students. The reports received will list strengths and weaknesses and assist in planning for the needs of each student. You will receive an individual report for your child next school year. You can help your child do his/her best by making sure of adequate sleep and a good breakfast. Testing will begin around 8:30. If your child is tardy, he/she will not be allowed to enter the classroom until a break. Please try and avoid absences and scheduling any appointments around the testing time. It is imperative that all Greenwood Students take the tests on the designated days. If you have any questions please call. :)

Spring Has Sprung!

FINALLY, Buttercup & Sunny's 2007 offspring (Joy) emerged last Friday morning! Mr. J & I were becoming increasing worried because the groundhogs usually emerge in late March. JOY looked thin and was covered with old fur on his back. The Jones' love watching the groundhogs! No sign of Buttercup or Sunny yet!

Another Mystery Solved!

Last Friday Officer Gary Cacy (Admirable Alexa’s dad) came to surprise us with the sweet classic The Giving Tree. The story is a moral tale about a relationship between a young boy and a tree in the forest. Thank you Officer Cacy for coming and sharing the story we loved it!!!

Our Solar System

We have been studying the Solar System. We split up in cooperative groups then used the computers, books, reference guides, and more to gather information on our planets. We wrote about our planet then did visual art of our planet. We learned many neat facts about each of the planets. After our reports we constructed our own Solar Systems. The activities were very fun and we learned soooo many new things!

Visit from the "FROG LADY"!

Ms. Meredith Lee "The Frog Lady" from the Oklahoma Scenic Rivers Commission came to our classroom & presented a “Frogology” lesson. She brought several of her frog friends, including Popeye & Gracie. She read us the story: A Frog In the Bog. We made frog sack puppets & they turned out so cute! We learned that it is very important to take care of our rivers & lakes. By taking care of them we are protecting the habitat of living creatures. It was a wonderful lesson! You can find out more about protecting the river by visiting: http://www.oklahomascenicrivers.net/

Mrs. J Visits The Governor's Mansion

Mrs. J & her husband attended the National Teacher's ceremony at the Governor's mansion. It was so nice & Mrs. J saw Mrs. Mandy Gower who was working there greeting all of the guests. Mrs. J received her National Certificate from Superintendent Sandy Garrett. I think Mr. J's favorite part was playing with Governor Henry's beloved pooch.

Class Art Show Winners

Our multiage family wants to give a big “way to go” to Spectacular Sophia (1st place) & Delightful Danna (2nd place) our art show winners! Sophia’s masterpiece, “A Day In the Country” placed third "all around" in her age division at the county art show this week. I thought all of the pieces of art were wonderfully creative! The children worked very hard on their pictures!

A Peek At Our Week April 6-10

Is it spring or still winter? With this weather who can tell! This is going to be a short week for us with conferences on Thursday evening & Friday morning. We will continue with our studies of the Solar System, antonyms, counting change, word problems, & leveled subtraction. Conference notes & enrollment for 2009-2010 are currently due. I am also accepting Jenks Aquarium (April 17th) field trip money this week. In addition Mrs. Frazier (music teacher) sent home a note about purchasing advanced DVD copies of our Multiage Music Program (Two Of A Kind) which will be performed on Tuesday, April 13th. I will be gone on Thursday to take my daughter to Tulsa. She has a morning appointment to get her braces off & a late afternoon appointment to get her retainer on. I will be “booking it back” to be here for the conferences that begin at 6:00 :)If you have any questions feel free to contact me.

Mystery Revealed!

Last Friday Mrs. Chris Berry (Spectacular Sophia’s mom) came to surprise us with a humorous story entitled A Camping Spree with Mr. Magee. The story was about man who wanted to go camping in a small RV & the adventures he faced. He had high hopes of traveling far away but ended up camping in his own yard. It was sooo cute & funny! Chris also brought yummy “camping treats” made with marshmallows. It was a wonderful camping adventure for all!!!!
