Nutritional Visit
This week we had a visit today from Tahlequah Public School's nutritionist Sam McConnell. She taught the students all about the "Rainbow of Nutrition." They learned about what each color of vegetables mean to your body & under which color they "fall." The students loved the visit and learned soooo much!

Pretty Penmanship!
We've worked VERY hard on our penmanship this year! Mrs. Jones has been teaching us how to add curls to our letters by following the D'Nealian formation. We've learned about the tall, small, & hanging letters. We know that we begin writing at the to top of the letters not the bottom. We also know which letters start at the top line, middle line, & the "ditch." We use our wipe off boards & markers daily to practice. Mrs. J is very proud of our progress in penmanship!
Valentine Bees
This week we made Valentine Bees. They turned out sooooo cute! We tied the idea in with our philosophy of Great Expectations by putting "talking bubbles" over our heads with "BEE" life principles ("Bee" Responsible, "Bee" Nice, "Bee" Kind, "Bee" Honest, "Bee" Careful, "Bee" Generous, "Bee" Respectful, etc.).

For the 2nd year in a row, Greenwood Elementary made MODEL SCHOOL for Great Expectations!!! We celebrated with an assembly. Our Vice Principal, Mrs. Sloan did a wonderful job creating & organizing the assembly! Our multiage sang a song about the continents.

Birthday Book
We celebrate each student's birthday my making them a keepsake "Birthday Book" that they can take home as a gift from their classmates. Mrs. Jones makes the cover of the books on her computer using festive birthday paper then laminates them. We design individualized birthday letters with a special picture for the birthday boy/girl.

Shadows & Groundhog Day!
Today we researched Groundhog Day. We watched "streaming video" of Punxsutawney Phil in Gobbler's Knob. Phil saw his shadow today! SIX more weeks of winter! After reading a book about shadows, we decided to test our own theory about shadows. We made our own "Mini Me's." Our Mini Me's looked just like us! We took them outside and stuck them into the ground. We checked to see if our mini me's had shadows, no shadows. We checked them several times during different times of the day...no shadows. Our mini me's think spring might be around the corner. :)
Addition Race to 100!
Today we played the game "Race to 100." We each had our own 100 grid. We worked with a partner, taking turns rolling 2 dice, & adding the 2 numbers together. We then colored that amount of squares on our grid. The first one to have all their squares colored in, won the game. It was a fun way to practice adding.

Valentine Exchange - Feb 12th
Our Multiage Family will be exchanging valentines on Friday, February 12th. Your child may start sending their valentines any time before the 12th. We will be making our Valentine Sacks this week. Please make sure that your child fills out their own valentines. We have 21 students. There is a valentine list in their BEE Book. :)
100 Days In The Multiage!
Today we celebrated the 100th Day of School! Last week we decorated paper sacks with the number 100 & took them home. We filled them with 100 items & brought them back to school to share with our friends. There was gum, suckers, peppermints, legos, Laffy Taffy, pennies, beads, & much more. We compared the things that we brought & weighed them on a balance scaled. We weighed things, looking for the item that weighed the most (100 Laffy Taffy) & the least (100 Legos). Did you know that 100 Laffy Taffy weighs more than 100 Smarties? Also 100 Legos weighs less than 100 pencil topper erasers? It was SO fun counting, sorting, & weighing all of the items!! We had 20 students present today. We sorted the items by 20's. It worked out that everyone received 5 of everything to take home!! Later we used our "smart brains" to make a prediction ..."If we flipped a penny 100 times, which would come up more often - heads or tails. After making predictions we conducted our math experiment, tallying the flips & results. Afterwards we used the same idea using one die. The question..."Which number on the die will come up the most times." We tallied those results as well. It was a day full of 100 math!
100 Day Glasses & Snacks!
Today we made 100th Day glasses & ate a 100 snack. Mr. Jones brought us a snack from Reasor's. He brought us fudge sticks & choclate donets. We used one fudge stick + 2 donets to make the number 100! A shout out goes out to Mrs. Jones' good friend Mrs. Bennett, who taught Mrs. Jones this little trick MANY years ago! It's still a class favorite!
100th Snow Day!!
Hey, hey 100th Day was also a SNOWY DAY!! We took a quick stroll outside today to check out the snow. It was actually warm outside & the snow was melting QUICKLY!

Seeing The World Through Buddy Bear's Eyes
Buddy is our classroom bear. He was given to Mrs. J as a Valentine present in 1993 by a very special student Ryan Humphrey. He started going home on weekends with her student's & began traveling the world. He has been to many exciting homes & places. He has met every child that Mrs. Jones has ever taught. He has been to birthday parties, class trips, trips to different states & countries, sat on the Great Wall of China, & met Micky Mouse! He is currently 15 years old. We will be documenting his trips below.
